Man waives hearing, faces charges in altercation with police officer

The man accused of assaulting a Spring Township police officer waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday.

William Tipton, 21, was arrested on Dec. 14 in Pleasant Gap after, police said, he ran from and punched and kicked an officer.

Tipton was intoxicated and repeatedly told police his name was “Ranger Koltov,” according to the criminal complaint. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, harassment, criminal mischief and providing false identification to police, according to court documents.

Tipton is held at Centre County Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail. Richard Settgast, Tipton’s public defender, said there was no comment on the case.
