The horticulture and landscaping program at Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology took first place and won the Best of Show award for its 15-by-10-foot hardscape display at the 2015 Pennsylvania Farm Show last week.

This is the first time a CPI program has won a best of show award at the farm show, landscape construction instructor Joe Luther said.

“This was such a great accomplishment for the program and our school,” Luther said. “The students really worked extra hard on this display and made sure they had everything just right, and it showed.”

Other students took home individual awards.

In the hanging-basket competition, Derek Rishel won first, Mike Bowersox placed second, and Cheyenne Miller placed fourth.

Holden Price took third in the miniature hardscape design; Levi Bisel placed third in miniature backyard design; and Taylor Shook placed third in hand drawn landscape design and fourth in miniature business front design.
