State College native Nick Berube’s “Jeopardy!” run has ended.

The 2003 State College Area High School graduate was the champion after having won on the TV quiz show Friday and Monday. But the Final Jeopardy question was his undoing.

“In 1170, he said, ‘I am ready to die for my Lord, that in my blood the church may obtain liberty and peace,’ ” was the final answer in the category “Last Words.”

The question was not, “Who is Thomas Aquinas?” and it cost Berube $5,400, leaving him with $6,600. But he walked away with a two-day total of $19,600, plus $2,000 for his second-place finish Tuesday.

The quote was from Thomas Becket.
