Emergency personnel respond to a vehicle crash involving an SUV Thursday at the intersection of Willowbank, Spring and Walnut streets in Spring Township.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision briefly shut down traffic near Bellefonte on Thursday.

According to Spring Township police, Kristen Simkins, of Spring Mills, was turning from Walnut Street onto Willowbank Street when she collided with an SUV driven by Jennifer Fogleman at about 11 a.m.

Fogleman and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The traffic light at that intersection has been out of service since early November, when a vehicle struck the control box for the signals and ripped out the electricity to the light, Spring Township Manager Bill MacMath told the Centre Daily Times in late November.

The boxes have to be custom-made, which takes time, McMath said at the time. The light has not yet been repaired, but stop signs have been installed at Water and Walnut streets near the intersection.
