Water authority offers tips to keep pipes from freezing

From CDT staff reports

February 17, 2015 07:29 PM

State College Borough Water Authority is advising residents to take precautions over the next week to prevent home water pipes and meters from freezing.

Residents are advised to set thermostats to at least 55 degrees and leave faucets running slightly during extreme cold spells. Sealing cracks around windows and doors prevents drafts. Pipes not protected with a heating source should be insulated, and opening doors and cabinets allows heat to reach those pipes.

Unoccupied buildings should be checked regularly, so out-of-town residents should have a neighbor or friend check their property on a regular basis.
