A bicyclist was flown to UPMC Altoona after an crash Saturday afternoon.
Jack Rector, 20, of Osceola, Wis., was racing in a road event that began at Black Moshannon State Park. Rector and a pack of other bicyclists were traveling downhill along a series of turns on Beaver Road in Huston Township when he and some other racers ended up on the other side of the center line, according to state police at Philipsburg.
A vehicle driven by Alishia Urbanik, of Port Matilda, was traveling from the opposite direction and swerved to avoid the bicyclists, but Rector hit the left side of her vehicle, police said.
Rector struck the windshield of the car and was thrown airborne, according to the report. He was wearing a helmet. He was treated on scene by EMS personnel form Port Matilda EMS before being flown to Altoona with serious facial injuries, police said.
