Police seek owner of $63,000 found in state park

Of the many natural wonders offered by Bald Eagle State Park last weekend, the most breathtaking may have been a plastic bag containing almost $63,000 worth of moldy bills.

The bag was discovered Saturday by a park visitor along the 2-mile stretch of the Skyline Drive Trail. Park Rangers were informed and notified state police.

Trooper Andrew Mills said the money was found alongside paperwork listing the owner’s name and other identifying information. The woman reported the money missing almost a year ago, but is located out of state and left no contact information.

Mills said that the state police will not hold onto to such a large sum and will most likely relocate the money somewhere safe while they continue to try to make contact with the owner.
