State police at Rockview are investigating an accident that killed a 20-year-old Florida man Sunday night.
The crash occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on state Route 144, or Old Fort Road, in Potter Township. State police said Thomas Porter, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., was traveling south on the road at what police said was “believed to be a high rate of speed,” when he collided with a vehicle driven by an 82-year-old Centre Hall man who was trying to turn onto Route 144 from Short Road.
Porter was declared dead at the scene by Centre County Deputy Coroner Todd Shook, according to a release from the coroner’s office. The cause of death was determined to be chest trauma. Porter was wearing a helmet.
The Centre Hall man and his passenger, a 78-year-old woman, both had minor injuries, according to police.
No further details are available for release, state police said.
