Five people were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center after a five-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Benner Township.

State police at Rockview said Michael Covalt, of Spring Mills, was traveling south on West College Avenue near Peru Circle Road about 4:05 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and entered the opposite lane of traffic. His vehicle struck a car driven by Katherine Cox, of Lock Haven. Police said debris from the crash hit a vehicle driven by Carissa Milliman, of State College.

Covalt’s vehicle then hit a car driven by Sharon Trinca, of Rebersburg. Trinca’s vehicle spun around and was hit by a car driven by Kevin Knarr, of Woolrich.

Covalt and two passengers, as well as Cox and Trinca were taken to the hospital by Pleasant Gap and Centre LifeLink EMS. Milliman and Knarr were not injured, police said.

The road was closed in the area after the crash.
