Pennsylvania House passes childhood cancer awareness resolution

A state House resolution designating September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month has passed unanimously, Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, said.

HR 317 will bring awareness to childhood cancer while honoring those lost and extending gratitude to the medical personnel who care for these special patients, he said.

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 10,000 children in the U.S. younger than 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2015. More than 80 percent of children diagnosed will survive five years or more thanks to major treatment advances.

“Though significant progress has been made, much more progress is needed in our search for a cure,” Benninghoff said. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians to join me in this important fight, however they can.”
