Scooter operator killed in State College collision

State College police have confirmed one death after a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon near the Penn State campus.

According to Sgt. Todd Scholton, police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to the accident involving a Mini Cooper and a scooter at the corner of Park Avenue and North Atherton Street.

Police said the car, driven by Kimberly Griffin, was turning left onto Park Avenue when it collided with the scooter, driven northbound on Atherton Street by Joel Reed.

Reed, 39, was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Griffin was not injured, police said.
