Wegmans identifies specific bottles, says water in stores is safe

A recall of bottled water tainted by E. coli bacteria is not affecting store shelves in Centre County.

According to Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale, although the grocery store’s Food You Feel Good About spring water was part of the voluntary recall by Niagara Bottling Co. in Ontario, all bottles in stores were removed Friday. Bottles now in stores are not part of the recall.

Affected are 16.9-ounce bottles with four specific UPC codes. Single bottles with the code 7789018860, bottles in 12-packs with the code 7789010085, bottles in 24-packs with the code 7789028768 and bottles in 35-packs with the code 7789029365, with “best by” dates of June 10-18, 2016, have been recalled.

Anyone with the included bottles should return them to Wegmans for a refund.

Niagara issued the recall for waters bottled at its Hamburg and Allentown facilities during an eight-day period “out of an abundance of caution.”

Niagara bottles water under its own label, as well as for other sellers, including Acadia, Acme, Big Y, Best Yet, 7-11, Nature’s Place, Pricerite, Superchill, Morning Fresh, Shaws, Shoprite and Western Beef Blue.
