A Russian tortoise reported missing in Spring Township more than two weeks ago has been reunited with her family.
Teddy the tortoise was found about 2 miles from her West Water Street home Monday by a woman living near Fisherman’s Paradise, said Teddy’s owner, Margaret Cook. Cook said the woman didn’t know the tortoise was a missing pet but assumed she wasn’t wild either. She posted pictures of Teddy on Facebook and an acquaintance recognized her. She passed on Cook’s contact information to the woman and Teddy was returned.
Although she initially thought Teddy had been stolen from her outdoor enclosure, Cook said that it appears Teddy had gotten out on her own. An off-duty Lock Haven police officer visiting family in Bellefonte saw Teddy trying to cross the street near Cook’s home on the day she went missing, and the man helped her across the street and placed her in a wooded area.
Cook said she is grateful for everyone who helped search for Teddy.
