Investigation continues into crash near Penn State campus

State College police are talking to witnesses and have called accident reconstruction specialists to investigate a crash that killed a man Monday afternoon.

State College police Lt. Keith Robb said a final report will be forthcoming pending the completion of the investigation, which could take several weeks. Any possible traffic violations have yet to be determined, Robb said.

Joel Reed, 39, was traveling northbound on North Atherton Street on a motorized scooter Monday shortly after 4 p.m. when he collided with a Mini Cooper, driven by Kimberly Griffin, 37, of Washington D.C., as the car was turning left onto Atherton Street from Park Avenue.

Reed was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he was declared dead. In a press release Tuesday, Coroner Scott Sayers said he died of blunt force trauma, ruling his death accidental. Griffin was not injured, according to police.
