A man accused of assaulting a Bellefonte police officer waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday, but his attorney said his client is innocent of the charges he faces.
Dalton Eicher, 22, of Bellefonte, was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct Saturday after Bellefonte police said he punched a police officer who stopped at a wedding reception multiple times. The officer was not called to the reception but stopped when he was patrolling the area after he reportedly observed an altercation outside Lambert Hall, according to police.
Reynoldsville-based attorney Joe Ryan, Eicher’s lawyer, said after the hearing was waived that he entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Eicher on Wednesday. Ryan said his client “absolutely” maintains his innocence and declined to comment further.
