A Benner Township state prison inmate was bound over for trial on a weapons charge Wednesday after a preliminary hearing before District Judge Leslie Dutchcot.
Marvin Henson, 25, was charged with a misdemeanor weapons charge late last month after staff at the prison said they found a six-inch handmade “shank” made of sharpened plastic in his jacket during a search.
The object was reportedly found between the inside and outside lining of the jacket, not a pocket. Patrick Klena, Henson’s public defender, asked Wednesday that Dutchcot dismiss the charge because inmates’ coats and clothing often change hands and the object could have been in the coat when it was issued to Henson.
Dutchcot decided to send the case to the Court of Common Pleas.
