A wing by any other sauce might taste so sweet. Or spicy. Or zingy. Or downright hot.

That’s the great thing about WingFest, the annual summer Thunderdome of flavors at Tussey Mountain.

On Thursday, the lineup in week five of the seven-round chicken challenge included Big Daddy’s, of Lewistown, Duffy’s Tavern, of Boalsburg, the Waterfront Tavern, of Lewistown and 9th Street Pizza and Wings, of Philipsburg.

The winner will go on to challenge Main Street Cafe, of Alexandria, Quaker Steak and Lube, of State College, Arena Bar and Grill, of State College, and Lettermans, of State College, plus next week’s champ, in the finals on Aug. 27.

And isn’t everything better with music? Velveeta provided the soundtrack of Thursday’s event. Upcoming headliners include Hybrid Ice and Jackie Brown and the Gill Street Band.
