State College residents will be joining Penn State students in an attempt to raise awareness of traffic safety practices in the hope of preventing future fatalities in the community.
Student representatives will be handing out surveys from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Park Avenue in the State College. Police Chief Tom King and representatives of the borough are expected to attend as well.
The Atherton/Park intersection has been problematic in the borough over the past two years, according to a Penn State news release. Three fatal collisions have claimed the lives of both residents and students at the intersection.
The Sustainable Communities Collaborative has partnered with the State College Police Department and the university College of Communications to address this safety issue, the release said.
