A new Persian restaurant is expected to open soon in Ferguson Township.

Fire & Fig Grill is working to open at 1100 N. Atherton St. in State College in the former home of Kimchi Korean Restaurant, which operated there for roughly two decades but closed in late 2025. The new restaurant is expected to offer a wide range of Persian specialties, including kebabs and stews.

Though Fire & Fig’s opening timeline remains unclear, its website asks customers to check back for an official opening date and more sneak peeks over the coming weeks. A note on the site says staff members are putting the final touches on Fire & Fig’s kitchen and menu.

The restaurant did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Centre Daily Times.

“Family-run and rooted in Persian culinary tradition, Fire & Fig Grill brings together bold flavors, open-fire grilling and saffron-infused rice in every dish,” the restaurant’s website reads. “We cook with pride, welcome every guest like family and aim to make every meal memorable.”

Fire & Fig’s website already displays an online ordering menu, though it is not yet operational.

A quick glance at the restaurant’s perhaps unofficial menu shows several soup and salad options in addition to appetizers like fresh-made hummus and mirza ghasemi, a grilled and mashed eggplant dish. Fire & Fig also offers a large selection of lamb, chicken and beef kebabs, offered à la carte or bundled in a meal complete with saffron rice and fresh veggies.

Specialty stews and Fire & Fig’s house special, a braised chicken dish, round out the menu, according to the restaurant’s website. Guests can order pickled garlic and vegetables, flavored rice, marinated olives and more as side dishes.

Fire & Fig’s planned opening in State College marks the latest development among local restaurants. It will join Sizzling Bites Halal Grill as one of the newest spots in town, while others, including the South Atherton Street IHOP and downtown State College’s Noodles & Company, recently closed.

The restaurant at 1100 N. Atherton St. that was previously Kimchi Asian Restaurant will become Fire & Fig Grill. A sign for the new restaurant is pictured on Monday.
