The New York-headquartered banking company opened its newest branch at 1300 N. Atherton St. this week. Chase representatives and Centre County officials, including State College Mayor Ezra Nanes, will attend a 10 a.m. ceremony Thursday to celebrate the opening, which marks the launch of the first Chase branch near State College.
The new-look Chase Bank will employ eight workers and offer meeting spaces, self-service transaction areas and a wide range of support for personal banking needs, including bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages and loan services. The bank is equipped with an indoor ATM, a 24-hour outdoor ATM and a night depository for after-hours deposits.
“Visitors will discover the branch looks and feels different from a ‘typical’ bank — combining a modern design, layout and state-of-the-art banking technology, reflecting how customers engage with Chase today,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
The bank is expected to operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The branch is closed on Sundays.
Chase Bank’s opening on 1300 N. Atherton St. represents a new chapter for the property, which has served as host to several banking companies before sitting vacant for years. The building was once a Nittany Bank before becoming a branch for National Penn, which was later acquired by Branch Banking and Trust.
Chase Bank operates more than 100 branches across Pennsylvania, but the new State College site is the company’s first branch in or near Centre County. The closest Chase Bank branches are scattered near Harrisburg, while dozens of locations are clustered in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas.
The launch of State College’s branch arrives as the holding company JPMorgan Chase recently announced plans to open more than 160 branches across more than 30 states in 2026 and renovate roughly 600 existing locations, all as part of “multibillion-dollar investment” to expand its services.
