The Pennsylvania Dental Association recently named Wade Newman, of Bellefonte Family Dentistry, as its president during the association’s state Dental Meeting and Expo in Hershey. Newman says he wants to expand PDA’s efforts to educate Pennsylvanians, especially seniors, about the importance of quality oral health care.
A longtime PDA leader, Newman advocated for the re-instatement of funding for the state’s Donated Dental Services Program, which connects the state’s most vulnerable citizens with dentists who voluntarily treat their oral health care needs.
Carolee Bull will become head of the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences on Sept. 1.
Bull is a research plant pathologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service at its Crop Improvement and Protection Research Station in California. Her research program focuses on detection and management of bacterial pathogens, integrated soil, and pest management in organic production systems and evaluation of disease-resistance traits in vegetable and fruit crops.
Bull has served as convenor of the International Society for Plant Pathology’s Committee on the Taxonomy of Plant Pathogenic Bacteria, and as secretary of the Judicial Commission of the International Committee on the Systematics of Prokaryotes.
