By Friday, a new restaurant owner hopes to give “dog days of summer” another meaning.
Richard Christiansen, the owner and operator of RC’s Dogs, plans to open his hot dog and American-style eatery in the coming days. Located in the Nittany Mall beside Lids, the 500-square-foot space was previously Soup ‘R Dogs, an eatery that served similar fare.
Besides hot dogs, the menu will include homemade chili, macaroni and cheese and pulled pork barbecue. Christiansen said the restaurant plans to have specialty hot dogs on weekly basis and eventually offer a small breakfast menu.
RC’s Dogs is Christiansen’s first restaurant. A peripatetic youth took him across the country, including stops in California. While there, he worked for Wienerschnitzel, a fast-food chain specializing in hot dogs. Christiansen will run the restaurant with his wife, Patricia.

“I’ve been cooking for years,” he said. “I remember doing it as a kid when I was in high school.”
The eatery’s hours will align with the mall’s: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
