Rise at State College announced the first tenant for its 12-story, 575-bed building in downtown State College.
And it will be a 16,500-square-foot grocery store called Urban Market.
The news comes as developers at CA Student Living partner with Liberty Mutual to begin construction of the building at 532 E. College Ave., which was home to Kildare’s. The building is scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2018 with pre-leasing to begin in the fall of 2017.
“Rise at State College’s highly walkable location and modern aesthetic will make it an iconic ‘bookend’ to the East College Avenue corridor,” CA Ventures Chief Operating Officer J.J. Smith said in a release. “While there are off-campus housing options in State College, this development will raise the bar in terms of both finishes and amenities, creating a new class of housing designed for, but not limited to, students who want to make the most of their college years.”

Rise at State College will be a mixed-use building with retail and amenity space on the first and second floors; graduate housing and professional living on the next two floors; and student housing on the top eight floors.
“The store will feature locally sourced produce and meats, grab-and-go food items and prepared meals including fresh sushi prepared daily, and year-round care package delivery,” the release said. “Rise at State College residents will also receive a 15 percent discount on all purchases made on weekends.”
Apartments in the building will be 400 to 1,500 square feet, ranging from studio to five-bedroom floor plans. Each will be furnished, according to CA Ventures.
A deck will have a hot tub and spa; gaming areas; a lounge with hammocks and a fireplace; a grilling and dining area; and a TV viewing area. There will also be an indoor lounge, study room, 24-hour fitness center and a yoga room.
