Car strikes woman at South Atherton Street crosswalk

One person was injured after a car hit a pedestrian Thursday evening.

According to State College police, Steinn Sigurdsson, 51, of State College, struck Juliette Ribardiere, 20, of State College, at about 5:40 p.m. as she was crossing at a crosswalk along South Atherton Street.

Sigurdsson stated he didn’t see Ribardiere as it was dark and he was traveling up a hill, police said. Ribardiere said she started to cross in the crosswalk when an unknown person yelled “look out” before she was struck.

Ribardiere went up over the hood and hit her head on the windshield, police said, cracking the windshield. She was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for evaluation. Ribardiere is a Penn State student.

Sigurdsson was cited.
