Firefighters responded to a Bellefonte apartment fire at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was home at the time of the fire at 217 N. Penn St., and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

Undine Fire Company Chief James Pressler said the fire was under control just after 4 p.m.

An initial estimate from the state police fire marshal put the damage at $20,000-$25,000. That estimate includes the loss of almost all the residents’ belongings, as well as smoke and heat damage to the unit.

Residents in a few neighboring apartment units were temporarily evacuated, but the fire was confined to one unit and no additional damage was reported, Pressler said.

Undine, Logan, Pleasant Gap, Milesburg and Alpha fire companies responded to the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
