Avery Milanese is asking you to become reacquainted with your local postal worker.
The 9-year-old girl from Bellefonte has been in and out of the hospital five times since January with pain from pancreatitis caused by cystic fibrosis.
Avery is receiving all of her nourishment from a feeding tube and hasn’t been to school in more than a month, so her family is asking people to send greeting cards to their home at 947 Seibert Road, Bellefonte, 16823, in a show of friendship and support.
“It’ll make her feel more connected to the community,” her mother Alissa Jaworski said.
Avery is expected to be homebound for at least several more weeks, and Jaworski is working on getting a teacher into the home so she doesn’t fall behind on schoolwork.
If Avery were to return to school now, a nurse would have to accompany her all day to monitor the feeding tube, which was inserted earlier this year after she was unable to eat anything without experiencing stomach pain.
“She’s such a brave little girl. ... She’s been through a lot and I feel like she handles it really well for her age,” Jaworski said.
