A stretch of Interstate 99 in Centre County, just outside of State College, was entirely closed in both directions for more than an hour Friday following a multi-vehicle crash. But I-99 was fully reopened in both directions by 6:20 p.m.

According to public emergency services information, at least five vehicles were involved in a crash near Exit 68 (Waddle/Grays Woods) around 4 p.m. Friday. The severity of any injuries was not immediately known, and the exact cause of the crash was not clear.

Still, on its Facebook page, Centre County 911 wrote several accidents were reported in the area as snow squalls blew through Centre County. And conditions on I-99 were also significantly icy, an eyewitness told the Centre Daily Times.

“If you can, please stay home and off the roads,” Centre County 911 cautioned over social media.

Immediately following Friday’s crash, PennDOT fully closed I-99’s northbound and southbound lanes around Exit 68. It reopened at least one northbound lane shortly after 5:30 p.m. but needed more than 30 minutes before reopening at least one southbound lane.

All lanes were reopened by 6:20 p.m., PennDOT reported on 511PA.com.
