Woman arrested for alleged DUI asks officer if he's been drinking

A Pine Grove Mills woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI Thursday after a minor crash on the 700 block of West Whitehall Road in State College.

Eileen B. Stephenson, 48, of 260 W. Pine Grove Road, admitted to drinking when a State College police officer stopped her vehicle after a crash near the intersection of West Whitehall Road and Waupelani Drive.

Witnesses reported watching Stephenson’s car swerve into oncoming traffic around 6 p.m., and at one point, almost strike a telephone pole.

During her drive, Stephenson stopped short of the intersection of West Whitehall Road and Waupelani Drive by about 50 feet, and when the driver of a vehicle behind her attempted to pass her, she moved and hit him, police wrote in a accident report.

The damage to the vehicles was minor, but when police arrived and asked Stephenson if she had been drinking, she replied, “Yes, have you?”

Stephenson registered a blood alcohol level of .344 percent, well above the legal limit, State College police reported.
