A Philipsburg man escaped injury when his vehicle hit an elk that wandered onto the roadway Sunday evening in Clearfield County.

State police in Clearfield said John Eyerly, 64, was traveling south on state Route 1011 in Karthaus Township when the animal walked out in front of his vehicle.

Eyerly was not hurt in the crash. Police did not say whether the elk died as a result of the collision.
