Police: Housekeeper stole $7,000 in jewelry and other items from Lewistown couple

A Lewistown woman is charged with stealing jewelry from a couple for whom she was caring and attempting to pawn the items at a local jewelry store.

Angela D. Fields, 37, faces felony charges of theft and receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception. She was arrested May 17 and sent to Mifflin County Correction Facility in lieu of bail, a report from Mifflin County Regional Police Department said.

Police said Fields was employed as a housekeeper for the couple for several months. On May 15, police said, she took several diamond rings from the couple’s home and attempted to pawn them at Foss Jewelers. A shop worker recognized the items as belonging to the couple, who were contacted by the store and in turn contacted police.

Police said they learned through an investigation that Fields had taken other items from the home. The total value of the items taken was $7,000, police said.

The items were returned to the owners.
