A 21-year-old State College man was found guilty Thursday of raping a woman in her sleep while she was in the area visiting friends and family for Thanksgiving.
A Centre County jury convicted Angel Alvarado on felony counts of rape of an unconscious victim and sexual assault.
Prosecutors said Alvarado and the woman were staying at a mutual friend’s home when the assault occurred Nov. 25, 2011. The woman had gone shopping early that morning and returned to the home around 12:30 p.m. to sleep.
When she woke, her clothing was partially removed and Alvarado was sitting beside her on the couch with no shirt on. The woman went to Mount Nittany Medical Center for examination and Alvarado’s DNA was found, prosecutors said.
