Penn State student charged with using lost card to rack up purchases at Berkey Creamery

A Penn State student who allegedly found a lost university identification card and used it to make $36 in fraudulent purchases at the Berkey Creamery faces 16 charges, including two felony counts in the case.

Penn State police charged Alexandra Otero with felony counts of unlawful use of a computer, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of identity theft, access device fraud, theft of mislaid property, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

In a criminal complaint, police said Otero found the card outside the Nittany Crossing apartments, scanned the card to check its balance and used the card for her personal use at the Creamery, where she apparently worked.

Otero remains free on $15,000 unsecured bail.
