An afternoon wildfire lasted into the night Thursday in Union Township, according to Centre County dispatchers, who received the call at 5:36 p.m.
The fire began at about the 1000 block of Governors Road in Union Township, though it was not known to dispatchers how much terrain the fire engulfed.
Centre and Clearfield fire companies responded, though the status of firefighters is also unknown.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for parts of central Pennsylvania until 8 p.m. Thursday, including Centre County. A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are current or about to take shape.
Winds were sustained at about 15 mph and gusted up to 30 mph. The wind combined with 25 to 29 percent humidity created the potential for “rapid and erratic spread of wildfires,” according to NWS.
The NWS also recommended that people not conduct outdoor or prescribed burns.
