In February, thousands of ice luminaries lit up Allen Street in an attempt to break a world record — on Friday, the Guinness World Record was officially set.
With help from hundreds of community members, the Light Up State College event featured 5,622 ice luminaries in downtown State College to top the previous record of ice luminaries in a community at one time, according to a Centre Foundation press release.
State College more than doubled the previous world record, which was set by the town of Vuollerim, Sweden, in 2013, with 2,651 lanterns, according to the release.
