Multiple people hurt in two-vehicle crash that shut down Route 144 for several hours
Motorists leaving the Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair were advised Saturday night to use an alternate route after state Route 144 was shut down following a vehicle crash that left multiple people with injuries.
Centre Hall mountain reopened at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a Facebook post from the Spring Township Police Department.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company was called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at South Main Street and Lower Greens Valley Road just after 8 p.m. Saturday, according to dispatch reports. Centre Hall and Walker Township fire companies were also called, along with a medical helicopter.
In a Facebook post, Spring Township police advised motorists to avoid the area and said the mountain would be closed for several hours for accident reconstruction.
Police said in a Facebook post Sunday afternoon that a vehicle driven by a Pleasant Gap man crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle.
The Pleasant Gap man was flown by helicopter to UPMC Altoona, while his passenger was not injured.
The driver and three passengers in the second vehicle were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center. One patient was then flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, a second was flown to Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a third person was taken to Hershey by ambulance. A fourth person was treated at Mount Nittany and released.
