State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, has found a way to honor veterans in his own backyard.
Hanna sponsored legislation that will honor local veterans through designated roads, bridges, overpasses and interchanges throughout the state — 22 in total, according to a press release.
One of these would be the bridge on state Route 144 that runs over Bald Eagle Creek in Milesburg, according to the release. The bridge will be designated the Veterans Bridge.
“Milesburg borough wished to honor the citizens of Centre County who have served or are currently serving our nation in the armed forces,” Hanna said in a release. “Centre County residents served in every major United States military conflict beginning with the Revolutionary War, so it’s only fitting that we honor these men and women in uniform with a lasting tribute. I was happy to be able to contribute in this way.”

If the bill is signed into law, the state Department of Transportation will be required to place and maintain signage indicating the designations, according to the release.
