SUV strikes woman crossing Atherton Street

A 52-year-old woman was hit by an SUV in State College on Saturday.

It was about 11:53 p.m. when State College police responded to the scene on the 600 block of South Atherton Street.

According to police, the unidentified woman was struck by the vehicle as she was walking across the northbound lane of travel. The woman was treated for severe injuries and flown from the scene by medical helicopter.

Police say the driver of the SUV, also unidentified, was not injured and alcohol was not believed to be a factor.

The incident remains under investigation.

Police were assisted at the scene by Alpha Fire Company and fire police, and Centre LifeLink EMS.
