The Bellefonte Area school board announced Tuesday night that a new scoreboard will be erected by 3 p.m. Wednesday at the high school football field.
It will be the first in a series of new scoreboard upgrades for high school sports teams.
Superintendent Cheryl Potteiger said it will be operational by the varsity football team's first home game of the season 7 p.m. Friday against Philipsburg-Osceola.
At a board meeting earlier this summer, Ken Bean, the district's director of fiscal affairs, said Reliance Bank agreed to sponsor the football scoreboard for $5,000 a year for four years, which would cover its cost.
The 14-by-25-foot scoreboard will be located at the southeast side of the field, said Aaron Barto, the district's director of physical plant.
Scoreboards for baseball, softball, junior varsity softball, and a portable multisport scoreboard are also in the plan, Bean said.
The district is working on getting other sponsors for them.
