While you’re hitting all those Halloween weekend costume parties, try taking your creative ensemble to a party with a cause.
The Pleasant Gap American Legion Club 867, 435 S. Main St., is hosting a Halloween party Nov. 1. Suggested $2 donations at the door will go toward scarves and supplies for the women of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home this Christmas holiday.
“We always make bags up for the veteran ladies,” Ladies Auxiliary President Gail Kuzemchak said. “There are 72 ladies up there at the hospital now.”
The auxiliary orders the Christmas-themed scarves online and adorns each with a handmade pin depicting snowmen and other winter favorites.

“We were going to do different scarves this year, but (the hospital workers) asked us not to because the ladies love them,” Kuzemchak said.
You don’t have to give the $2 donation at the door, she said, but that’s where it’s going if you do.
The scarves also come with a bag of goods, such as notepads or toiletries, she said. “It’s always a pretty bag with ribbons, too.”
The club is planning on making the Halloween party an annual event, she said, as a way to raise funds for the scarves and goods.
“We’re doing it anyway,” Kuzemchak said, regarding the scarf delivery.
“We’ve done that for years. But it just might help us put a little bit more in their bag.”
The idea came from some of the younger members of the auxiliary, she said. Kuzemchak said she’s looking to pass the duties on to a new generation and is running with some of the ideas this new group is developing.
The event, which is open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. and will feature a costume contest with prizes and music by DJ Nate Weaver from 8 to 11 p.m.
