Several local fire companies had to contend with frigid temperatures and road conditions complicated by weather to combat a fire Sunday morning in Walker Township.
The fire, at 103 Dry Run Road, along state Route 64 and less than a mile from the Clinton County line, was reported shortly after 5 a.m., Walker Township Fire Company Deputy Chief Bill Shaffer said.
“We had lots of cold weather to deal with and it took awhile to knock it down, but we got it out,” Shaffer said.
The fire was out and the last fire engine left the scene at almost 9 a.m., Shaffer said. The building was a total loss.
Road conditions were a challenge, and two firefighters responding to the call in a private vehicle crashed en route, Shaffer said. The firefighters weren’t injured, and there were no injuries reported at the scene of the fire, Shaffer said.
Howard Fire Company, Pleasant Gap and Undine Fire Company from Bellefonte as well as firefighters from Clinton County also responded, he said.
