The state Senate unanimously passed a bill Monday renaming a local bridge in honor of Bellefonte’s veteran community.
House Bill 863, introduced by Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, at the beginning of the 2015-16 legislative session, was passed unanimously by the state House in May, and now heads to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
The bill would rename the bridge on West High Street over Spring Creek the Bellefonte Veterans Bridge.
“Another major step was taken yesterday toward our goal of honoring the great legacy of Centre County residents who have bravely served this country,” Benninghoff said in a news release.
The official bridge renaming is scheduled for July 3 after a veterans parade.
