A new festival at the Centre County Grange fairgrounds set for Friday and Saturday will kick off Local Foods Week in Centre County.
In its first year, the Pennsylvania Organic FarmFest will feature live music, educational workshops, organic food and retail vendors and activities for children, according to the event’s website.
The event will run from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds in Centre Hall.
Admission is free and festivalgoers can camp overnight.
Workshops will include information on renewable energy, gardening, canning food and raising chickens.
More information can be found at the event’s website at www.farmfest2012.paorganic.org.
Local Foods Week begins Friday and runs through Aug. 11, the day of the seventh annual Centre County Farm Tour.
According to the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture website, the tour will continue the tradition of giving county residents a glimpse of how local farms operate.
This year, the tour will feature 21 different farms, giving residents a chance to see how cheese is made, how animals are cared for and how fruits and vegetables are grown and harvested.
More information about the tour, and a complete list of events for Local Foods Week can be found at PASA’s website at www.pasafarming.org/events/pasa-events/centre-county-farm-tour.
