On Centre: Winter markets allow residents to support local farming year-round

The Old Gregg School Farmers Market kicked off its winter market season Saturday in Spring Mills.

The market is held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday in the gym of the Old Gregg School Community and Recreation Center.

Organizers said the indoor market, which features local vendors from across the region, will run through December. The indoor market will culminate in the annual Winter Craft Fair and Market on Dec. 15

“Having an indoor winter farmers market allows Centre County residents to help support our local farmers year-round, as they provide us with wonderful foods all grown, raised or made close to our homes with such care and dedication,” organizers wrote in an email.

Organizers said guest space is available for nonprofit fundraisers, chef demonstrations, artists, craftsman, musicians and other performers.

Anyone interested in more information about the farmers market, or for photos and recipes from participants, can visit its Facebook page or its website at oldgreggschool.com.

Those interested in taking in some art after picking up local produce can check out the Green Drake Art Gallery in Millheim.

The gallery will host a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday for its November show, “Studio Artists of the Green Drake.”

The reception, which is free, will feature live music by the Jay Vonada Jazz Trio and an artist’s talk at 8:30 p.m.
