On Centre | Penns Valley: Workshop focuses on land conservation

The registration deadline is coming up for a field day hosted by Penn State Extension in partnership with Penns Valley Conservation Association at ChicoryLane Farm in Spring Mills.

“Woods in Your Backyard Landowner Workshop: Seeing Your Land” is an information session for people interested in improving their land for benefit of flora and fauna.

And it will include a presentation from Penn State professor of forest resources Jim Finley.

A report from Penn State Extension said Finley will help landowners establish a better relationship with their land by teaching them how to use their land and sustain it for the future.

The event will also include discussions on conservation and habitat improvement projects in fields, woods and wetlands, developing cool and warm-season grasslands, establishing native wildflower meadows, identifying and controlling invasive plants and managing streamside and early successional habitats for wildlife.

The eventwill be held in partnership with Penn State Center for Private Forests, ClearWater Conservancy, Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, DCNR Bureau of Forestry, Centre County Conservation District, Wildlife Management Institute, Pennsylvania Game Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.
