A 43-year-old Clearfield County woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash near Philipsburg, state police said.

Melanie K. Hummel, of Woodland, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on U.S. Route 322, according to state police.

Clearfield County Emergency Management reported a collision shortly before 2 p.m. between a triaxle truck and a car on Route 322 near the Boggs Township Municipal Building.

Scanner reports from those on the scene detailed “heavy entrapment.”

State police at Clearfield responded to the accident. Troopers at the crash scene said the car was traveling west when it crossed the center line.

The truck, with identifying information from Irvin Trucking, of Tyrone, was headed east.

A medical helicopter was called for the driver of the car. The helicopter landed but was not used.

Police said the truck driver, Samuel C. Frantz, 59, of Tyrone, refused treatment.

The road was closed until shortly after 6 p.m. while personnel at the scene waited for PennDOT to arrive. Battery acid spilled on the roadway.

Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District contacted parents to warn them of significant delays with buses because of the road closure.
