Traveling in Philipsburg will be a little bit easier soon.
The state Department of Transportation will open a $1.3 million bridge that spans Cold Stream on Loch Lomond Road. The bridge is expected to be used by more than 2,500 vehicles per day.
The Friday opening will also enable PennDOT to remove a detour in the borough that’s been in place since April. The detour had motorists use One Mile Road, Medical Center Drive and a separate part of Loch Lomond Road instead of the bridge.
Work included demolition of the old bridge, construction of a new concrete structure, sewer line relocation and pavement markings that allow PennDOT to remove the bridge from Centre County’s structurally deficient list.
