Think warm thoughts...

Seriously, the winter has been so bitterly cold that it’s hard to even begin to think about summer.

But for parents, it’s time to think about what activities your children will be doing when summer finally gets here. And there may be no better place and day than Mount Nittany Middle School on Saturday.

The school, just off Warner Boulevard on Brandywine Drive in College Township, will be holding a summer youth fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, which offers parents and students a clearinghouse of program representatives, is the largest gathering of its kind in the area.

Families can choose from almost 50 area representatives, from day camps to preschools and religious activities to athletics. Plus, many of the organizations on hand represent numerous programs.

The event is sponsored by the State College Area School District Community Education, and it is free. For information on organizations participating in the event, call 231-1062 or see the complete list on this page.

Do you speak Web?

If you’re into all things Web — web development, innovation, application, security, social networking and more — then check out some amazing speakers at Penn State’s annual Web conference at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

“The Future Friendly Web” conference doesn’t happen until June 9-11, but registration for the popular event is now open.

The annual conference brings Web professionals together to share information and learn from a variety of speakers and in hands-on workshops. Half-day workshops are available, as well.

This year will include keynote speakers Jeremy Keith, Tiffany Shlain, Wil Wheaton and Josh Clark. There also will be a diverse program of sessions, events and excursions, and workshops presented by Ethan Marcotte and Luke Wroblewski.

Registration is $500 through Feb. 28, then $650 through April 25. For more information, visit http://webconference.psu.edu/.

Thon, just a tad shorter

The Penn State Alumni Association’s Blue & White Society is holding a 46-minute dance marathon at 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Hintz Family Alumni Center at University Park.

The event kicks off the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon season and will feature performances by student singing and dancing groups. Also on tap is free food, music and crafts.

Performers include Blue in the Face and Whiplash. Penn State men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky will be on hand to help kick off the pep rally.

The event ends at 7:30 p.m.
