The State College Area School District has received a $2 million grant for the State High project.
The state Department of Community and Economic Development awarded the grant Tuesday under the Commonwealth Financing Authority to be used for the new high school’s LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The certification recognizes sustainability standards, which include reduced energy costs, water conservation, indoor environmental and air quality and storm water management.
Components of the State High project goals include a building with 30 percent yearly energy use reduction over national averages, 35 percent reduction in water use, full LED lighting, natural daylight in more than 70 percent of the building and 20 to 30 percent of the building to be from recycled content.
