Local fire companies responded to a field fire Monday in Ferguson Township.
The fire was reported at about 12:45 p.m. in the vicinity of the 3500 block of West College Avenue. Alpha and Boalsburg fire companies responded and, when they arrived at the scene, about 10 acres were involved, Alpha Assistant Fire Chief Tony Berrena said.
The fire was contained and extinguished quickly, but 20 to 25 acres burned. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but Berrena said dry and windy conditions Monday could have contributed. This time of year, wildfires are of additional concern as things dry out, and Berrena asked anyone burning anything to exercise caution.

If someone is going to burn anything outside, they should ensure they have a permit, clear the area around their controlled burn site and have a hose nearby in case anything happens while they monitor the flames, he said.
“Just be careful,” Berrena said. “If you’re burning, flicking a cigarette out of your car going down the road, anything that is going to have a spark to it, please don’t be careless.”
