Weis Markets plans on developing a Dunkin’ Donuts and a Weis Gas-N-Go station at 1400 N. Atherton St.
A preliminary site plan was submitted to Ferguson Township on June 14. Ray Stolinas, the director of planning and zoning, and Lindsay Schoch, the township community planner, said the planning commission met about the proposed 2,359-square-foot Dunkin’ Donuts location last year and a traffic study has since been approved. The planning commission has initially viewed the plan, which will go through a review process before ground is broken. No definite timeline for construction has been established.
Both the Dunkin’ Donuts and the Gas-N-Go site will replace what was previously a vacant lot near the Weis Markets at 1471 Martin St. The Dunkin’ Donuts location, which will be the fifth in State College, will feature a drive-through lane. The plan includes 48 parking spaces.
The Gas-N-Go station, meanwhile, will include an attendant’s kiosk. According to the plan, the site will include four fueling stations.
Access to the property from North Atherton Street will be a right-in, right-out pattern, Stolinas said; southbound drivers will only be able to turn right into the site, while those departing must turn right onto North Atherton Street. Stolinas said there will be a sign at the entrance of the Weis parking lot indicating the traffic directions.
“It will indicate to people traveling on the back access road to the Weis that you can’t go westerly on Atherton, you’ll have to come back out and go out to the light near the PNC Bank, or out Martin Street,” Stolinas said.
Lights will be added to the property, Stolinas and Schoch said, however no streetlights have been proposed for North Atherton Street.
Dunkin’ Donuts last opened a location in State College in April at 1311 S. Atherton St.
